Brief Autobio (i.e. work, family, location, age, etc.)
I’m a 42 year old, very happily married, Army wife. My husband and I currently live at Ft. Knox in KY with our two extremely spoiled boxer dogs, Tank & Lucy. I have one 20 year old daughter, Ashley, and one 14 year old stepdaughter, Danielle. Ashley recently moved back home with my parents after deciding that she would rather experience campus life vs. taking online classes for college. Danielle lives in Indiana with her mother. I now know what an ’Empty nest’ feels like and it stinks! (Don’t mistake that for me wanting to be a grandmother anytime soon. I don’t! lol)
Obligatory Design Questions
How long have you been designing?
I’ve been designing for about 5 years, though all that time hasn’t been spent designing scrapbook products. I started with making signature tags for other military wives. Almost two years ago Amy and I started a cafepress store to design apparel and other various merchandise. This past year, around Christmas time, Amy and I saw a blog post on Ellie’s blog asking for other new designers to help put together a Christmas collab. We responded, became two of the ‘original’ Sunshine Girls, and the rest is history!
What program(s) do you use?
I started with psp, moved on to pse5, and now use pscs3. (Have I mentioned lately just how much I love my husband?!?) ;)
What part of designing comes easiest to you (themes, colors, titles)? I’d have to say the themes and the colors come easiest to me.
What part of designing is most challenging to you? Finding time, with no distractions, to just sit and design/make what I want without feeling rushed. (Key words: no distractions, without feeling rushed) Designing on a schedule or to meet deadlines frustrates me to no end. I’m a firm believer that my heart has to be ‘in it’ first and foremost, and then (and only then) the rest will fall into place naturally, as it’s supposed to.
What inspires you? My greatest inspiration is my father, also an artist. I remember sitting and watching him paint in our garage as a child. He now has his own studio and these days I find myself wishing I could still sit and watch him. Needless to say, visits home always leave me feeling very inspired and ready to design again. I really do need to visit home more often!
What is your design style? I’m not really sure how my design style would be classified. I know what I love, but I don’t think this is one in the same as my style. I absolutely adore anything whimsical and quirky, but I can’t say this always is the direction I design in. I normally design what I love at the moment… and those moments change often. ;)
What does your workspace look like? Very messy. Very, very messy. It has become my mission in just the last couple of days to change this.
Do you have any hobbies or interests aside from digital scrapbooking? Genealogy, cooking, gardening, reading. I used to love to write poetry and short stories, but I find myself not having the time nor the desire to do much writing lately.
If you could be any color what would it be and why? Element? Texture? Style?
Color: Green. For no other reason other than it is my favorite color.
Element: If I could be an element… I’d be a frame. A frame, so I could capture & keep all those wonderful (and sometimes not so wonderful, but memorable all the same) moments in life!
Texture: I’d be linen. I love linen… linen anything!
Style: Quirky and whimsical, of course!
Which is your all-time favorite digiscrap design creation? Quirky Crow. Quirky Crow was inspired by and named after my favorite antique store/art gallery back home where my father sells his artwork. It was very fun to design. It’s also the one kit I can honestly say I still love and haven’t gotten sick of seeing!
Inside the Actors Studio Questions
What is your favorite word? I honestly don’t have a favorite word. I’m a word lover (translated to word nerd! lol), so I have many favorites!
What is your least favorite word? God***n… hate it! It literally makes my skin crawl when I hear it being said.
What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Being surrounded by family and loved ones… anything nostalgic and/or vintage, especially if it was owned by a relative or ancestor… candles burning (I have them burning all over the house daily!)… quiet time, me time, daydreaming, traveling, vacations, visits back home. Music, a good laugh, a glass of fine wine. The list goes on and on…
What turns you off?
Jerks, pervs, idiots, those who are brainless (without having a medical reason for it), backstabbers, dishonesty, fakes, liars, greediness, those who are anti-GOD, anti-military, and/or prejudice. I think this pretty much covers it! ;)
What is your favorite curse word? I can’t say I have a favorite. I try really hard to not cuss. I fail, though. I’m human!
What sound or noise do you love? Many… my husband whispering in my ear… my daughter’s laughter… my dogs attempting to speak… baby babble, the sound of the ocean, a favorite song, burning wood crackling in a fireplace, thunderstorms. This is another list that could go on and on.
What sound or noise do you hate? Hateful screaming or yelling, snakes slithering, scratches on chalkboards (who doesn’t hate hearing this?!?)
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Private investigator or Crime scene investigator. I’ve always wanted to do this. Not sure why I never did. I came close when I was a volunteer fire department member, the department photographer, and worked with the arson investigator. I miss that time in my life. A lot!
What profession would you not like to do? I could never be a soldier. That’s my husband’s job and I know without a doubt I could never even begin to fill his shoes… er, ummm… boots!
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? “Welcome! Took you long enough to get here!” … Needless to say, I really hope I have a long, full life!
Off-the-wall Questions
What is your favorite fruit? Grapes
Out of all your college experiences, what was the most fun?
The frat houses… why lie? ;)
How many hats do you own? Quite a few ball hats, actually. I haven’t worn them in forever, but I still have them and love them.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? To be able teleport myself anywhere in the world. That way, there’d be a lot less feelings of missing family and loved ones and more seeing them!
Your co-worker comes by your desk and sticks her tongue at you, what do you do? Depends on which co-worker. If it was one I liked, I’d stick my tongue back out in return. If it was one I didn’t care for, I’d probably think ‘how lame!”, roll my eyes, and ignore them.
What is Eskimo ice? An icemaker
What is your worst quality? I’m way too skeptical at times
If I came to your home and looked in your refrigerator, what would I find? Leftovers, coke, coffee creamer, and some bottles of wine… in addition to the normal staples like eggs, milk, cheese, and butter.
What did you want to be when you were 12 years old? A private investigator. Some things never change!
Do you install toilet paper so that you pull from the top or the bottom of the roll? Top. Definitely the top!
If you were a tree, what would you be? An oak tree. A large, strong, oak tree.
What was the last book you read? Janet Evanovich’s Lean Mean 13. Can’t wait to get Fearless Fourteen! The whole series of these books are definitely ones you don't want to read in public if you're scared to laugh out loud and have others wonder about you! Go buy them, borrow them, whatever. You won't be disappointed!
If you could choose to be any food, what would it be? A cheeseburger. A good, old fashioned, All American, classic, and family favorite.

Such a fibber, hehe. You usually forget to put in a new roll of toilet paper. Then, I have to hope there's some within reach or call you to get some for me. Definitely agree on the oak tree. You are always there for me even when I'm not always there for you. I've been so wrapped up in the issues that have come along in my life that I sometimes forget that it's OUR life that's being affected. I love you.
The question only asked which way I 'loaded' the toilet paper. It didn't ask 'when' I did this, so no fibs from me, mister!! ;)
I love you, too!
